Failure to Appear

Traffic Ticket Lawyer in Raleigh

There are a number of reasons that might cause a person to fail to appear in court for a traffic violation such as speeding or running through a red light. The person may have experienced a scheduling error, or possibly even a natural anxiety about appearing in court. Fortunately, there are steps that can be taken to resolve such a situation. If you have failed to appear in court for a traffic violation, contact a Raleigh traffic ticket lawyer who can assist you in pursuing a resolution to the charges against you.

At Law Offices of J.M. Kotzker, P.C., we provide personalized legal help to those who have been charged with a traffic violation in Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill. Every one of our clients is able to speak directly with an attorney, rather than an assistant or paralegal, and obtain information and guidance as they navigate the legal proceedings related to their traffic offense. We can provide you with this personalized care and assistance should you fail to appear in court for your traffic case. Our goal will be to efficiently resolve the matter so that you avoid the penalties that typically come with a failure to appear violation.

Penalties for a Failure to Appear Violation

In a majority of traffic cases, rescheduling after a failure to appear is not a significant problem. Most violations give a person 20 days to address a failure to appear order. Should the person fail to resolve the matter within 20 days, however, they will likely be reported to the Division of Motor Vehicles and charged a $200 fine. We will fight to persuade the court to remove the $200 penalty on your behalf.  They may also receive a license suspension for failing to resolve the original traffic infraction.  This can be further complicated by the fact that once the case is resolved, the DMV must decide whether to reinstate the person's driving privilege.

If you failed to appear in court to address a traffic ticket, contact a Raleigh traffic ticket attorney who can help you take the necessary steps to reschedule your court appearance.
